Well I went out the other night to do some research for my short story. I decided to try and follow the path my cyclist (Duffy) was going to take on his journey from Hamilton Square to Holt Hill.
I've recently got a new phone and car dock - the Google Nexus One - so thought I'd try recording the journey using the inbuilt video recorder. My girlfriend - Gail - said she'd come along for the trip so you can hear us talking in the background, but the final version will be somewhat better I hope.
After seeing the the movie, I realised this isn't exactly the kind of thing I'm after. It doesn't represent a bike ride enough as the camera doesn't lean in the corners and it doesn't have the joltyness. So I'm going to have to find some way of mounting the camera to my bike I think and then try re-filming the journey during the day.
I was planning on making the movie of the story and then having the story narrated over the top with sound effects thrown over, but I'm not sure if I'm going to get time to do all that before the deadline. I'll see - hopefully it will come together in time without too much effort... well see.
Well done. That is really good.I have been trying to work out each step of the way with you and its been fun.

I really like the idea of using a voice over and a video to tell your story. We're going to have a lot of variety in both the stories themselves, and in the way that we tell them, on the finished site.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea that your story will be audio visual. I really like the film you've made, especially the view over the water as I have never seen it at night. However, I agree that it doesn't quite give the sense of being on a bike and it would be brilliant if you could fix your camera to the handle bars on your bike. I think sound effects would be a good thing to go for as well to give a sense of the bike and the person on it. What would they be - the sound of the pedals and wheels going round, breathing, breaks..?
ReplyDeleteI especially think that having the story narrated over the top will be very effective - making a familiar place strange and really locating your story. Don't worry too much about time, we can talk about deadlines on Thursday and there may be more time than you think.
